The Young Lawyers Section brings together attorneys early in their careers to support professional development, leadership growth, and meaningful connection within the legal community. Open to attorneys within their first five years of practice or under age 36, as well as law students, the Section provides a space to build skills, expand networks, and engage with the profession in a more accessible and dynamic way.
Through a mix of CLE programming, leadership initiatives, and social events, the Section focuses on helping members develop the practical and professional tools needed to build a strong foundation in their careers. Signature programs include Pitfalls and Pointers, a half-day seminar featuring judges who provide direct insight into courtroom advocacy, and the CMBA’s New Lawyer Bootcamp, which the Section helps plan and support.
In addition to its educational offerings, the Section fosters connection through networking events and partnerships with other young professional organizations, as well as through its Young Lawyers e-Community. Members also engage in a wide range of activities beyond traditional programming, including basketball and softball leagues that create opportunities for informal connection and community-building.
The Section maintains a strong commitment to service through initiatives such as Wills for Heroes, which provides free estate planning services to first responders, along with additional volunteer efforts including Brief Advice Clinics, the Halloween Run for Justice, and service at the Ronald McDonald House. Through these efforts, the Young Lawyers Section supports both professional growth and community impact while helping new attorneys build lasting connections within the legal profession.
